Portland, OR — Cadence Management Corporation has selected Boston Scientific Corporation to receive its 2004 award for Customer Excellence in Project Management. Boston Scientifc has made the transition to a true project-based organization successfully implementing its Project Management Office (PMO) at headquarters and regional offices in the United States and Ireland.

John Patton, President and CEO of Cadence Management Corporation, presented the award to Brian Scovil, Sr. Vice President, Program Management for Boston Scientific. Patton cited as the basis for the award:

  1. The velocity of the implementation, delivering significant returns in the first year of its four years of existence.
  2. The contribution of project management practices to Boston Scientific’s growth over the past four years from revenues of 2.6 billion in 2000 to $5.6 billion in 2004.
  3. The intensity of focus by the PMOs on continuous improvement of methods, tools, and training.

“Another key factor which contributed to Boston Scientific’s success was to focus on a single, flexible standard project management process for projects worldwide,” said Patton. “This facilitates improved communication and performance in Boston Scientific’s virtual project team environment, where project team members are cities and continents apart.”

Upon receiving the award, Scovil stated “The project managers and new product development teams at BSC have made great strides over the past four years to bring project management skills and tools into BSC. We recognize project management excellence as a discriminating competency in our quest to be the world’s best medical device developer and producer. We would like to thank Cadence Management Corporation for their commitment and support to the development and delivery of training for our core teams.”

Cadence has trained over 1700 employees on two continents in at least five locations.
